One of the many beautiful things about Waterperry, is that it offers interest throughout the year - even in winter when it becomes a skeleton of its summer self.

The perennials are cut down to ground level and the leaves fall off the deciduous trees and shrubs, leaving bare twiggy structures.

The framework of trained roses and fruit is exposed with the framework creating a feature of interest in its own right.

However there are flowers appearing all through the year and during the winter these are very precious.  From  Christmas onward winter helebores and aconites push through the soil with winter flowering shrubs such as Lonicera fragrantissima, Viburnum fragrans and Viburnum x bodnantense providing precious winter flowers which also gently scent the air.

February is lovely month to visit, because the double snowdrops appear at the first hint of mild air. In places they form dense white carpets throughout meadow and border and herald the onset of spring.  Very soon Scillas, Crocus and early Narcissus and many other plants start to make an appearance and another gardening season has begun.
