There is great late colour on the nursery this week and it’s the perfect time to plant ready for next year.  We have our Winter Pansies, Polyanthus, Wallflowers and Violas out for sale (starting from £6.75 for a tray of 15, or 45p a plant) and over 50 new varieties of unusual shrubs coming onto the nursery for the weekend. In addition we have a new range of alpines, and more than 250 varieties of bulbs in the greenhouse. We still have SALE stock including perennials, shrubs and roses, and 2 for 1 offers on some pots.

New Shrubs

This week we have some unusual new shrubs on the nursery, including Magnolia Grandiflora ‘Exmouth’ (above), which you can see on the East and West walls flowering now.  It’s worth reaching up to the showy white f lowers, which are up to 30 cm (12 in) wide, to smell the amazing lemon citronella scent. We also have three new usual Buddleja and the fantastic Toona Sinensis ‘Flamingo’ which will you give you salmon-pink foliage in the spring, paling to creamy-yellow then rich green in summer. The flowers are whitish, borne in dense, drooping panicles in midsummer and are fragrant and the fruits are winged capsules.

In the nursery

Simon and Jenny have been re-planting the borders on the front of the wall with the classic combination of Wallflowers and Tulips using Primrose Bedder with Tulip Snaeda Orange.

We’ve grown 8 varieties of wallflower which are ready now, including White Dame, Sugar Rush, Fire King, Cloth of Gold, Persian Carpet, Blood Red, Primrose Bedder and Ruby Gem and we have a large range of Tulips in the greenhouse.
